Trans-Arterial Chemo-Embolization (TACE)
What is Trans-Arterial Chemo-Embolization (TACE)?
Trans-arterial chemo-embolization (TACE) is a targeted treatment for liver cancer that combines chemotherapy with embolization. The procedure involves delivering chemotherapy drugs directly to the tumor through the hepatic artery, followed by the injection of embolic agents that block the blood supply to the tumor. This dual action helps to enhance the efficacy of the chemotherapy and limit systemic side effects. TACE is mainly used for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and can be repeated multiple times if necessary.
