Proton Beam Therapy (PBT)
What is Proton Beam Therapy (PBT)?
Proton beam therapy (PBT) is an advanced form of radiation therapy that uses protons instead of traditional X-rays to treat cancer. Protons have the unique physical property of depositing most of their energy at a specific depth, known as the Bragg peak, allowing for more precise targeting of tumors with minimal damage to surrounding healthy tissue. This makes PBT particularly beneficial for treating tumors located near critical structures, such as brain tumors, pediatric cancers, and certain types of head and neck cancers.
